Product selection starts with what is being cleaned and what has to come off it. That decision is made per surface, not applied as one bottle across an entire home.
Responsible selection and application
Correct dilution, correct dwell time, correct tool. Most product waste and most surface damage come from using too much of the wrong thing, not from using too little.
Microfiber and professional equipment where appropriate
Quality microfiber, colour-separated cloths and proper equipment remove a great deal mechanically, which reduces how much product a surface needs in the first place.
No unnecessary chemical use
If a surface can be brought to a genuinely clean result with a gentler approach, that is the approach we use. Stronger products are a tool for specific conditions, not a default.

Heavy grease, hard water scale, soap scum, restoration-level buildup and sanitation-sensitive areas sometimes legitimately require stronger professional products. Pretending otherwise would leave the home unclean.

A product that is gentle on the planet can still be wrong for stone, wood or a specialty finish. The surface decides what is safe.

Bathrooms, kitchens and post-illness or post-tenancy situations have real hygiene requirements that we do not compromise for appearances.

Why correct product selection matters, surface by surface
Most avoidable damage in a home comes from the wrong product on the wrong surface — not from a lack of effort.
Wood
Finished wood dislikes excess moisture and harsh formulations. Over-wetting and aggressive products can dull or damage the finish, so wood is cleaned with controlled moisture and a suitable product.
Stone, granite and marble
Natural stone can be sensitive to acidic cleaners, which is why an all-purpose or acidic bathroom product is not a safe default here. Sealed and unsealed stone are treated with care and appropriate products.
Stainless steel
Streaking and swirl marks are usually a tool and technique problem. Stainless is worked with the grain using the right cloth so the finish stays even.
Glass and mirrors

No, and we will not claim otherwise. We select the product that is appropriate for the surface and the condition. Where a gentler, eco-conscious option performs properly, we prefer it. Where buildup or sanitation needs require a stronger professional product, we use one.
Can I request that you avoid certain products in my home?
Yes. Tell us during the assessment or before your service date. Let us know about delicate surfaces, manufacturer care requirements, sensitivities in the household or anything you would prefer we do not clean, and we will plan the visit around that.
What if avoiding a product means the result is limited?
We tell you before the visit rather than after. If a requested restriction means a specific buildup cannot be fully removed, that is explained honestly and reflected in your Scope of Work.
Is eco-friendly cleaning less effective?
For everyday maintenance on well-kept surfaces, a gentler approach paired with good equipment and technique performs well. For heavy grease, scale or restoration conditions, stronger professional products do work that gentler ones cannot.

Yes. Fresh & Shiny brings professional products and equipment selected for the surfaces and the service in your Scope of Work.
Should I use vinegar and baking soda between visits?
Home remedies are a personal choice, but they are not our professional system, and some of them — acidic mixtures on natural stone, for example — can damage surfaces. If you are unsure about a surface in your home, ask us first.
