Community Care Cleaning Services in Durham Region
Fresh & Shiny’s Community Care Cleaning Program privately reviews requests for supported or complimentary residential cleaning in Durham Region, Ontario.
The program may assist independent seniors, people living with disabilities or reduced mobility, individuals experiencing illness or recovery, and households facing genuinely difficult circumstances. Every request is considered individually based on the household’s cleaning needs, property condition, location, safety, our available resources and our current schedule.
Community Care is a residential cleaning program. It is not a personal care, nursing, caregiving or home healthcare service.
What Community Care is
Community Care provides case-by-case consideration for residential cleaning assistance. It is not an automatic entitlement, ongoing benefit or general discount program.
We only approve cleaning work that Fresh & Shiny can perform safely, professionally and within our available capacity. If a request is approved, the household receives a clearly defined written Scope of Work identifying the rooms and cleaning tasks included.
Who may request Community Care cleaning
Requests may be submitted for:
- Independent seniors who need help maintaining a clean home
- People living with disabilities or reduced mobility
- Individuals experiencing illness, recovery or temporary physical limitations
- Caregivers facing exceptional household pressure
- Families or individuals experiencing serious temporary hardship
- A neighbour or family member, with the household's knowledge and consent
Eligibility is not automatic. Each request is reviewed privately and individually.
Residential cleaning that may be considered
Depending on the household’s needs and approved Scope of Work, Community Care cleaning may include:
- Kitchen surface cleaning
- Bathroom cleaning and disinfection
- Dusting accessible household surfaces
- Vacuuming and mopping
- Cleaning selected bedrooms and living areas
- Cleaning doors, frames and accessible touchpoints
- Limited deep cleaning of approved areas
- Condition-appropriate residential cleaning products
The exact service depends on the condition of the home, the approved rooms, safety considerations and the amount of work we can reasonably provide.

The same professional cleaning standard
Approved Community Care services follow the same professional cleaning procedures used for other Fresh & Shiny residential cleaning appointments.
Every approved service receives a written Scope of Work. This helps the household understand exactly what will be cleaned and allows our team to arrive prepared with the appropriate equipment and products.
Community Care approval does not mean that every room, task or requested extra will be included.

Private and respectful by default
All Community Care cleaning requests are handled privately and respectfully.
Fresh & Shiny does not publish names, photographs, medical information or personal stories. We never require anyone to share their circumstances publicly, appear in promotional content or post about the service in exchange for assistance.
Only the information reasonably needed to review the cleaning request, confirm safe access and prepare an appropriate Scope of Work should be provided.
What Community Care does not provide
Community Care is limited to appropriate residential cleaning. It does not include:
- Personal care or senior caregiving
- Nursing, medical assistance or home healthcare
- Medication support
- Laundry, ironing or meal preparation
- Mould remediation
- Biohazard or hazardous-material cleaning
- Pest treatment
- Hoarding remediation
- Junk hauling or large debris removal
- Construction debris removal
- Repairs, maintenance or property restoration
If the property presents unsafe conditions or requires specialized remediation, Fresh & Shiny may be unable to provide service.

How to request Community Care cleaning
Step 1: Send the cleaning request
Call 289-892-5016 or email marlenisi@freshandshiny.ca. Briefly describe:
- Who the cleaning request is for
- The service address or Durham Region community
- The type and approximate size of the property
- The rooms or areas needing cleaning
- The current cleaning condition
- Any mobility, access or safety considerations relevant to the cleaning service
Requests may be submitted on behalf of another person as long as the household knows about the request and can authorize access to the property.
Step 2: Private review
The Fresh & Shiny office reviews the request privately. We may request additional information or photographs when reasonably necessary to understand the cleaning condition and determine whether the work can be completed safely.
Submitting a request does not guarantee approval or complimentary service.
Step 3: Clear response and Scope of Work
We respond honestly based on our current capacity.
If we can assist, we confirm the approved rooms, cleaning tasks, service conditions and scheduling availability in writing. If we cannot safely or reasonably accept the request, we communicate that decision directly rather than leaving the request unresolved.
